The Original Aces and Ciyo Brown Band - Sounds and Pressure Part 3
The Original Aces, one of the most iconic vocal groups in Jamaican music history, once again unite with guitar man Ciyo Brown to bring us SOUNDS AND PRESSURE PART 3 - a celebration of ROCKSTEADY, the rhythmic bridge that spanned ska and reggae and the follow up to two of the biggest party nights we have seen at Hideaway.
Reformed and sounding studio fresh, the vocal harmonies of the Original Aces, featuring Barry Howard and Carl St Clair plus new member Black Steel, first came to the world’s attention through their groundbreaking work with Desmond Dekker.
Desmond Dekker & The Aces were the first Jamaican reggae artists to achieved a Number 1 chart hit record in the UK and Europe with ‘Israelites’. Hit after hit followed, including ‘007’, ‘It Mek’, ‘Unity’ and many more, securing The Aces a unique place in Jamaican and world musical history.
“Desmond Dekker & The Aces, singing lyrics in a Jamaican patois, helped make his 1969 song “Israelites” an ode to the troubles of the poor, sold millions of copies, became the first purely Jamaican song to top the charts in the United States, and opened the ears of the world to the music of the island,” wrote Los Angeles Times journalist Jocelyn Y. Stewart.
